By | August 5, 2018

There’s one nagging object standing in between you and your freedom from lower back pain…your Mattress!

Who knew that the most comfortable component in your household would cause days of aching agony? The most common place begins is in the household, and it’s not surprise.

From the second we wake up to second we lay back in our beds, the process of lower back pain is just enticing us to begin to give in.

Our beds are supposed to be a place of:

  • relaxation
  • unwinding
  • shutting off our thinking
  • loving our spouse

There’s a difference between the right mattresses for each and every person and what the best mattresses for back pain are. A middle of the road mattress is important for you if you don’t suffer from excruciating pain.

But for those of us who are constantly struggling with lower back pain on a daily basis, it’s vital to get a mattress that needs these two things:

  1. Comfort
  2. Supportive

Kind of sounds like the opposite of your lower back right? But guess what? There is no need to worry, I’m supportive and at least I think I’m comforting?…

I’m here to 1. Make sure you get helped and 2. You benefit greatly If I haven’t achieved those two goals I’ve failed you.

Throughout countless lower back pain days and nights, I too did struggle, and If you read my how to sleep with lower back pain page you’d see a more specific interpretation. For this, I will bring to you a self-management guide, and a clear focus on:

  1. A mattresses functions
  2. Do you really need a new mattress
  3. Types of mattress
  4. How to prevent back pain in bed
  5. Top 5 mattresses
  6. What’ll work for you well

If at any point, you have a question, or if you have any concerns, go right ahead and drop me a comment down below. I usually respond back within the first 24 hours.

Without further a do, let’s go ahead and get started!

How Exactly Does A Mattress Function?

Okay, I know what you’re thinking, “I’m about to learn how a mattress functions, really??” Hey, I get it!

I too asked myself this same question when not only my doctor, but my best friends dad who own a mattress store here in Vancouver, WA explained to me the ins and outs. To my amazement, I regretted flipping out.

So what’s a mattress do Michael?

Simply, A mattress is a sleeping system with various parts all working together. Think of it like a cars timing belt.

If the timing belt is off, hence “timing”, then the counterparts either take the rest of the load, or get damaged so nothing works.

And so we get back to the mattress.,

Like geology has a sedimentary, Igneous layer, a mattress has layers as well.

1. The Comfort Layer

On the surface of your backs support is called the “comfort layers.” The parts are there to provide you with the two words I mentioned above, about 2 minutes ago…

Comfort and Supportive.

And these two are supposed to help you with any sleeping position. That’s it!…

All the other areas of your bed come a large second to that.

Let’s look at comfort:

This is about pressure relief. Your mattress you have now or will want to snatch has to conform to your:

  1. Body shape
  2. Form a cradle

The cradle should be deep enough to spread your entire body weight over the surface of your mattress and most importantly “releive your pressure points”. Trust me when I tell you, compressed pressure points feels like your laying on a layer of bricks.

Therefore, you should feel like you’re sinking in.

2. The Core

We’re getting warmer, in the sense of feeling snug in your bed.

What body part does your bed mainly support( cough – lower back). You guessed it, the lower back! The core is meant to support your spinal alignment, and your mattress needs to control how far your different parts sink down in the mattress.

Depending on the mattress you have or get, there may be more than one layer of support.

3. Transition Layer

Not all mattress are the same, and so some will have middle layers, which help with both:

  • pressure relief
  • spinal alignment

This layer contributes to both aspects of comfort and support.

Here’s a note: There’s such a thing as sinking down, and it has nothing to do with sinking in.

Sinking in means how well will your mattress cradle to your overall bodies shape, and how well can it provide you with pressure relief.

On the other hand, It’s nemesis, sinking down means how deeply different parts of your body sink into your mattress, disregarding the cradle formed by the upper layers.

This part is concerned primarily with spinal alignment. You’ll see an example of both sinking in and sinking down demonstrated below.

Sinking in:

Ex: I’ll use water, as it’s the easiest form of density vs surface tension. If you were to lie in a puddle of water, it will form itself to your body.

Sinking down:

Ex: Lets take a hammock. If you lie on the hammock, there will be no cradle. You will have pressure points, but they will be scattered, meaning some of your parts will be sinking lower than others.

Let’s talk about something called temperature sensitivity.

A memory foam mattress is well known for it’s temperature sensitivity. simply meaning it allows your body to contour to any shape it desires.

  1. Ambient room temperature(22 degrees Celsius and higher).  In a higher temperature, the physical structures of both the memory foam mattress and memory foam pillows will be changed in its viscosity-meaning the resistance of a liquid to flow.

For ex: Water has a smaller viscosity than oil because it acts more fluidly. It’s most noticeably when you place both liquids on a surface and record the flow and surface tension(but that’s an experiment for another time)

Regardless of its viscosity properties, the memory foam still holds its solid form, but it becomes more flexible.

2. Cooler temperatures. Opposite of higher temperatures, cooler temperatures exhibit a more rigid and inflexibility. It may take a little longer to warm up depending on your cooling space/environment. But once it does, there’s not much of a difference.

Now we proceed forward on telling whether you need a new mattress or not.

Is It Time For A New Mattress?

You wouldn’t believe how many people I’ve met that bought a new mattress only to complain even more. But why?

  1. The mattress was not the problem
  2. Mattresses didn’t help alleviate lower back pain

Number one is the one we’ll focus on for now.

Did any of the following apply to you?:

If you checked off at least one of the following statements below(coming up in a second), you are in need of a new mattress, but if you haven’t it’s not yet a No…

Throughout my experience, I was taught by the people who helped me get through my own chronic back pain to demand a little effort in other solutions at first. What I mean is if you haven’t tried these things before bed, you wouldn’t know if a new mattress is what you needed.

Hmm…It makes you think a little doesn’t it? There’s no doubt you can ever replace the feeling of a new mattress, but if you’re just starting out and want to try other alternatives before investing in a piece of furniture where you will spend over 90% of your life in, it’s worth a try.

It’s helped me before I bought my mattress, and then months down the road I got me my new bed. But if you know you’re ready, be a go-getter, and do it(Just looking out here).

How Did I approach it?:

Did I need a new bed? For me personally, I didn’t invest in a new bed or mattress, mine was “firm” enough at the time. I also had two memory foams that I shifted and adjusted for a better sleeping experience, and even better; I did all the things I listed in bullets right above.

That’s right, If you can follow a nightly routine to improve your sleep, you’ll improve your chances of 1. Not waking up with stiffness in the morning and 2. You can prologue the use of purchasing a new bed, if you’re not sure.

In the next part, you’ll’ll learn about the different types of mattresses, so you know EXACTLY what you need.

What Are Your Selections?

There is no such thing as a perfect mattress for everyone. It’s vital you choose the right one for your natural sleeping posture.

Now, If you really need a new mattress because the previous steps I mentioned didn’t work for you, then it’s time.

When you go to choose a mattress or your lower back pain, there are things to keep in mind:

  • Is it firm enough to support your lower back – will you be able to cradle to your pressure points.
  • Has to be soft enough to contour to your body – cradle.
  • Too-stiff mattresses will push back against your spine
  • Too-soft mattresses simply don’t give you enough support
  • If you sleep on your side, a slight soft mattress is necessary, because it will cushion your shoulders and hips
  • Do you sleep on your stomach? You need a firmer mattress, to keep your above – so your spine doesn’t concave in.

Most people will sleep with a combination of all these specifics. People like myself who are about 150Lbs on average will prefer a more medium-firm feel mattress.

For weights 200 and above the same can be said, but they prefer more of a firm feel since it can hold their weight from sinking in.I surprisingly realized that it’s not about how much you move on your bed but how isolated you are.

You want to move less to not aggravate your pain, and keep you from bending, and making awkward movements.

Mattress in a box vs A Traditional Mattress:

I bet you didn’t know there were two different ways to get a mattress, or maybe you did, but you just didn’t know about what a mattress in a box can do for you.

Time has changed, and mattresses have evolved over the years, to where now you don’t need to walk into a mattress store or your favorite retailer like Walmart and purchase a bed. Well can’t you do that with just about everything else?

Here’s a video about what a mattress in a box is and looks like:

Well, yes and no. We have to look at the capabilities of ordering online vs going in store. Specifically, since we are speaking about back pain, the shift has been focused to the online retailers. The reason for this is that there are more reputable companies and far more that can create a customize-able, and trigger point targeted mattress for your lower backs needs.

There’s a large difference between a mattress and ones that are better suited for your back pain. Let’s take the temperpedic mattress line for example:

You can walk into any retailer, it doesn’t even have to be a mattress store, and you’ll be likely to see these beds. Although they are a great addition for a better nights sleep, you’re not 100% positive that it will work just yet.  But because they are “name brand” and they hold a high authority among all others, you’ll assume its the right choice.

No problem with that if its what you like, but is it good enough to comfort your back night in and out? Not until you try it. That raises a concern…

When you purchase a bed in store, you will likely not be able to return it, and if you have to, it will be:

  • a quick turn around
  • a hassle to toss away

Up until a few years ago, I always went the traditional route because of the benefits in:

  • seeing it up close
  • talking through the sale

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like that because I still do, but more so for back pain, and constant aches and pains, there’s no better way to go than a mattress in a box. For these reasons:

  • longer return policy
  • easy to toss
  • industry standard
  • easy setup
  • among the most popular brands

According to Consumer Reports, to make the process as as pain free possible as it can be, many of the bed in the box companies will offer your free shipping, and trial periods, usually 100 days, and some up to a year! If you’d like to learn if a bed in a box id for you, click here.

What Will Work Best To Relieve Your Chronic Lumbar Discomfort?

Over the years, I mad changes in my sleeping routine, And don’t be surprised about how I started…

I went from heating and cream, to yoga every single night, to cognitive thinking, and to better sleeping positions and even better sleeping positions. However…

even still to this day I do all these activities before bed(for strengthening and less inflammation in the morning), I finally bought into a new mattress.

Now, I know what you’re thinking,

“will a mattress work for me?”

The short answer is ofcourse, the long answer is you’re missing out on a whole new experience!

After you’ve ran your nightly routine and still wake up with lower back pain, Oh yeah, its time.

But before I reveal to you the #1 mattress I want to show you two options, option one is the alternative route, while option 2 could be your future mattress.

Option 1: A Mattress topper. For those of us who don’t know, a mattress topper is a removable bedding that sits on top of your mattress. Its purpose is to support the mattress that’s too soft or look like its been thrown into the tosser.

Last year, I visited 3 different mattress stores in the year, closely looking for the right topper. Those being in this order:

  1. Sears
  2. Macy’s
  3. Mattress world

I stuck to the one from sears and hear it is:

The firm memory foam topper had lasted me a thankful 4 years, before I needed an upgrade for sub-acute lower back issues. It was in the begging of summer(for those long days out in the sun, and festivities) that I went for a more medium-firm topper.

After a week of research and sleeping on it, I awoke on Saturday morning, and I was ready to purchase my LUCID 3-inch Gel Memory foam mattress topper-Queen for a great deal of $99.00.

The right price for helping stay off my chronic pain for the next 7 months!

Here’s the picture of one I wrote a review for Amazon.

I’d wake up with little to no sore muscles or joints, and my spines posture increased. Thanks to the LUCID memory foam I was able to continue my morning lower back stretches without discomfort and painkillers.

Option 2: Time for a new mattress. Unfortunately, we’d like to keep our bed in both tip top shape and the best for our backs, but that can’t be the case. When you have bad back issues, its better not to think twice. All it takes is one night to disrupt your whole morning and day.

But it doesn’t have to last. Over the past 5 years, the bed industry has evolved. New competitors means new designs. I took the chance to visit once again:

  1. Sears
  2. Macy’s
  3. Mattress world

…But my results were not only disappointing, also a waste of weeks. I turned to my dads friend who owns his own mattress store just down the street on a 172nd st in Vancouver, WA.

He gave me advice, and told me that the mattresses online can be much better for my lower back.

He explained that I could spend on average $300 for a mattress, but that its a quick turn around. In a couple years I’d end up with a new one. Great if you’re on a budget but I was looking for a long term replacement.

I checked online in the “mattress in a box” world, and within 4 days of hard research, I came to a decision.

Best Memory Foam Mattresses 2018 – High Quality, Durable, And Firm

Memory foam mattresses are known to be highly energy absorbent and soft. These types of mattresses are world wide known for there amazing weight distribution, allows your body to mold easily with comfort, and they reduce tossing and turning while you sleep. We’ve chosen the best Memory foam mattresses today for you.

#1 Nectar

If you’re in the market for a memory foam mattress that is the average price and is highly comfortable, this is the one you must consider. The reason I say this is because you’ll be saving yourself a whole lot of cash in your pocket, while getting everything a memory foam mattress should give you. Plus, you can’t go wrong with saving shipping cost.

One of my favorite features of the Nectar mattress is its adaptive high core memory foam. You won’t have to worry about your small or large body being supported wrong, and it gives you the right rebound and bounce.

If that’s not enough, I think you will also like that it comes with:

  • Heavy memory foam prevents your back from feeling any pressure and added discomfort. You won’t have to worry about getting the right trigger point pressure relief, as this weight gives you the best solution in the market.
  • Once you lay down, you’ll adjust right away. This ensures you’re getting the “just right” comfort level thanks to its semi-open Lush Foam which holds five patents and is the most premium foam gel available. The awesome part about this is that it’s usually used for medical uses, as it directly absorbs and distributes heat properly so you don’t heat up, and immediately returns back to its original shape.
  • The breathable base layer makes it easy to use and sleep on. This is another feature that makes sure you get the most densest yet breathable base layer out of any mattress; drawing in fresh air through its molded channels, a 2.2ILD Rating, as where other mattress have a 1.5ILD or less.
  • This product is made of quilted memory gel foam. This is just another reason makes your mattress more comfortable and loft, along with better breath-ability, making it a must have.

As you can see, there is much to love about the Nectar mattress. In fact, there are many reviews over at Nectar about this product and almost all are overwhelmingly positive. If you want to see what other customers are saying about this product, click below:

Before we continue, I want to add that I too have my own nectar now, as of July 2018. It’s worked really well for me, and I can’t say enough about it being life changing. Let me share just a little(will be a little redundant of what we just covered, but it doesn’t hurt to re-emphasize right?), but if you want to continue seeing the rest, scroll down.

Behold my Nectar mattress:

I was happy to see its overall was above more established name brands like:

  • Casper
  • Sleep Number
  • Lucid
  • Purple
  • Temperpeudic
  • Bear

…To name a few.

After a night, I knew I made the right call, couldn’t have been happier! And I remind you, I’ve tried many others guaranteeing you their best for lower back pain.

It’s true not everyone will like the same bed feel, but when you don’t know what you want the best rule is to go with a medium firm mattress.  With the best memory foam mattress in the world, you’ll be able to:

  • sleep longer
  • wake up refreshed
  • sleep on your back
  • sleep on your side
  • sleep on your stomach(although I don’t recommend with serious back pain!)

Here are the Pros:

☑ All layers

☑ sinks in to your weight

☑ Great pressure points

☑ Room for concavity and curvature of your entire bod

☑ Doesn’t disrupt your partner sleep

☑ Keeps you cool

☑ Sleep on your back and side

And Cons:

X takes a little effort to switch sides, but not difficult

X Minimal amount of bounce

But there are more benefits…

You might want to pick up the Nectar bed if:

You want to try before you buy. You’ll get a 365 day trial period! Seriously, WOW! Most online “boxed mattresses” are likely to get you 100 days and that’s not a drawback.

I thought about the change of seasons, and I really wanted to put it to the test.  Return it free of charge, and get your full money back!

☑ You want firm and comfort support.  It’s firm for support and soft for comfort(something you don’t get elsewhere).

☑ You want a cool mattress.  Designed with air circulation in mind. Air circulates from the deeper layer to the upper layer, keeping you cool all night long

A mattress topper and a mattress bed are both helpful. Both will last you for a very long time. I first started with a mattress topper and moved my way up. For me, I knew it was time for a new bed, so I need a long term replacement.

A bed will be the biggest ergonomic investment of furniture you will ever make.

When its time for a new mattress because everything else I helped you figure out above, does not work, then its time for new.

Good quality memory foam mattresses are very fond upon by chiropractors, doctors, and physical therapist, to relive lower back pain.

#2 Saatva Memory Foam Mattress

It’s a little more of an expensive mattress that combines the best priced luxury, and incredible maximum sustainability.  If you have slightly better budget restriction, you should go for Saatva. Being one of Americas most reputable brands, you don’t have to worry about support or after sale.

One of my favorite features of this Memory foam mattress is its distinctive high quality “coil on coil” construction. You won’t have to worry about motion transfer. as both the top and lower coils eliminate that.

If that’s not enough to spark your interest, I’m sure you will also like that it comes with:

  • Very advanced euro pillow top prevents you from having to purchase only premium mattresses that cost well over $2,000. You won’t have to worry about getting high quality for a great price.
  • Once you lay in, you’ll immediately feel how the individual coils go to work to contour your body, and any other body shape. This ensures you can stay still, and away from having to adjust your body through the night.
  • The dual perimeter edge support system is reliable and very easy to use. This is just another feature that will give the top coils more durability, and a better sleeping surface.
  • This product is made with a tempered steel support lower coil base. This is another reason that creates longer lasting, and from sagging, making it easy to keep in shape for years to come.

There is no doubting how much there is to Love about the Saatva. So much so, that many people at Saatva are leaving highly positive reviews. If you’d like to see what other customers are saying about this product, click below:

#3 Loom And Leaf by Saatva

Saatva has been pushing out great mattresses for years. If you’re in the market to spend a little more that will bring you premium comfort support, this is the one you must consider.  The reason I’m saying this is because a premium cushion will keep your lower back from feeling stiff and cause muscle knots. It might cost an extra arm, but for the features you get that you can easily pay over $1,000s, this is not even matched.

One of my favorite features of this memory foam mattress is its Eco-friendly 5Lb memory foam. You will not have to worry about heating up and it gassing out because of this.

If that’s not enough, I think you will also like that it comes with:

  • Large quilted, organic cotton covering prevents you from getting uncomfortable. You won’t have to worry about staying cool, and safe at the same time either.
  • Once you’re asleep, the dual layer breathable support provides you with breathable airflow. This ensures that you keep your body cool through the night and not from warming up
  • The cooling spinal gel is very reliable and easy to use. This is another feature that you stay cool with optimal spinal support without having to move around.
  • This product is Eco-friendly as well. This is just another reason why it’s so convenient, and a must have.

The Loom and Leaf by Saatva is another great choice as you can see. You can’t beat a greats night sleep, and that’s what Saatva can give you easily. In fact, there are many people at Saatva saying overwhelmingly positive things about it. If you’d like to see what other customers are saying, click below:

#4 Purple

There are some people that don’t have a budget, and are willing to get the best, and most extraordinary mattress. If you’re someone who has heard about purple, and can’t hold the urge but give it a try and seeing what 1,00,000s of people are talking about, it’s worth a shot. The reason I say this is because it’s made high-elastic polymer, while at the same time being very soft.

One of my favorite features from purple has to be its smart comfort grids. You won’t have to worry about the top and bottom two layers because of this. The two bottom layers have CertPUR-US-Certified polyurethane foam with a smart-comfort grid system which creates walls that either support or fold , depending on the pressure delivered at any time.

If that is not enough, I think you will also like that it comes with:

  • An Ultimate Bed preventing your spine from getting out of alignment and feeling pressure on any side. You won’t have to worry about getting the ultimate sleeping experience, for better recovery, and relaxation because of this. Your body needs to recover from a long day, and Purple will make sure you get that.
  • Once you lay down, you’ll immediately feel the motion isolation. This ensures you get proper spine alignment, equalizing your body pressure from your weight, so you don’t feel movement from others sleeping near you. No more waking up when someone else moves!
  • The Antimicrobial material is very reliable and easy to manage. It is another feature that makes sure there are no artificial germicides, and will protect you against dust mites and allergens.
  • This product comes with free flow air channels technology. This is just another reason that it doesn’t trap heat like other memory foam mattress do. Instead it neutralizes temperatures to keep your body comfortable and cool at all times.

As you can see, there is much to love about Purple. In fact, there are hundreds of reviews on Amazon of people leaving overwhelmingly positive reviews. If you’d like to see what other customers are saying, click below:

#5 Sleep Ovation, 700 Tiny Mattresses in One

If you’re in the market for a next level comfort mattress that can offer you both a cool refreshing sleep and unmatched cleanliness at an affordable price, than the sleep ovation mattress is the one you must consider. The reason I am saying this is that the mattress has an active airflow all throughout it and the easy zip off cover will allow you to easily wash.

One of my favorite features of this back pain mattress is its individual support suspension system. You won’t have to worry about supporting each and every one of your bones(33) In your human spinal column separately because of this.

If that’s not enough, I know you’ll also like that it comes with:

  • Very large cradling and contouring support prevents your back from getting stiff and hurting your bony and backs muscular components.
  • Once you’re asleep during the night, your body will be feeling nice and cool. This ensures that you can avoid the headaches of sleeping in a hot and sweaty sheet foam. The air channels are designed to completely keep a cool temperature through your whole night.
  • The stretch knit cover is very reliable and easy to use. It’ll allow the “tiny mattress” the ability for you to adjust to its weight and size. An internal (FR) mattress built in will offer you a more plush level of comfort.
  • This product is also adjustable with bed frames. Whether it is a solid platform, board on box spring, or a solid base, it makes it convenient and a must have!

As you can see, there is much to love here. In fact, there are many people that are giving it overwhelmingly positive reviews. If you’d like to see what other customers are saying, click below:

The Tempur-Pedic is an expensive memory foam mattress that packs layers of support and ultra-breathable layers. If you’re willing to spend a little more for one the highest quality beds in the market, this is the one you must consider. One of my favorite feature of the Tempur-Pedic is its Tempur-HD Material. You will not have to worry about a bad mattress feel, and no cooling comfort, as the base of the bed helps disperse heat away from.

If that’s not enough, I know that you will also like that it comes with:

  • A Large 12.5 inch mattress that prevents  you from sinking in ever, and helps to evenly distribute your weight all across the mattress.
  • Once you lay down, you’ll feel how it precisely adapts to your body, giving you great contouring and cradling. This ensures you don’t have to move and adjust while you are asleep
  • The 4 layers are very reliable and easy to sleep on. This is another feature that makes sure that the cooling layer, comfort layer, support layer, and Base layer keep your body on a smooth surface.

What Can Foam Do For You?

They come in ranges of density, providing you with:

  • soft
  • medium
  • firm
  • medium firm – mos preferred mattress for lower back pain sufferers

… Depending on your needs, one bed will work better for you than it does for the next person. I personally FAVOR the medium firm option, and the reason is because It contours to my weight well enough without sinking in or being rough, while reliving me of my pressure points.

And you can’t go wrong if you choose a memory foam! I’ll be talking more about that as we go along.

Remember how I talked about cradling? The memory foam will cradle to your bodies natural curves, while also being firm enough to support your muscular back, and all the bony structures in it.

A question I receive plenty of times is: “What will work for my weight?”

This is what I say to that…

If you’re sinking down into the deeper layers of your mattress, then you don’t have the right mattress type. I have a friend who’s hitting 305, and he complained of him sinking into his mattress.

Now, I’m a smaller guy, so a bed like the nectar will work perfectly. But for heavier fitted people, there are plenty of options.

I hear the BIG FIG is a great option. It is more on the medium-firm and is built well for back and stomach sleepers. And then theirs the alternative approach…

One of the main reasons for a lower back pain is weight. Now I’m not about to say you will need to start exercising more, looking into Pilates, and strengthening your core muscles, but perhaps that’s a route you’ve considered.

My goal is to help you live a lower back pain free life, and substituting a larger bed for your habits, might not be the clear standard.

The Best Mattress Is The One Best For You

There is not one single bed that is right for each and every person. Some of us will like a more firm feel as oppose to a softer cushion. The rule of thumb is to shoot for a medium-firm mattress.

In my opinion, these are the best for lower back pain, bar none! It gives you enough support so you don’t sink in to deeper layers, and it contours to your shape much easier.

I’ve covered, how a mattress functions, and all the layers to a mattress, when its time for a new mattress –

remember to follow all the steps I outline above before investing in anything new, what your selections are, what works the best for chronic lumbar support, and what can any of these mattresses do for you.

My suggestion is to take a look at a mattress topper to begin if you haven’t already, you can see here for all the best options for mattress toppers

but if you’re ready for a new mattress, the ones above are the ones you must consider. If you want to experience what I have, come learn more about how you can save $125 off your purchase, and receive 2 free pillows, for a limited time only with Nectar mattress here.

I guess I never really thought about the “sinking in” and “sinking down” aspect of it. I never had given memory foam much of an option because I felt like I was “sinking” in it. But to know it is cradling the way it should be, I might just have to give it another chance. Thanks for the article.

      Hi Holly,

It’s not something we really think about, but there’s more to a mattress then just getting a firm bed. I learned a lot from my friends dad, and I’m happy I did because without it there wouldn’t be much understanding on how to treat my own pain. Yeah, if it’s cradling, then give it another chance. You’re welcome!

Most of us should really pay more attention to our mattresses, that’s for sure. A durable mattress will not only last you for years, but it’ll also help you live a healthier, stress-free life. I’ve learned so many new and interesting things about mattresses here, and I will definitely make sure to keep them in mind on my next purchase.

Hi Andrew, I believe we do, and obviously there are other factors like testing to see if it’s really your back, but when it’s time, then it’s best to go for one. You are 100{b2e0dba9c93837a4f3ce441fa43dc3a0e947a29fe0fd2c517ea2237d7754a6d7} correct my friend! Even if it were for a month, and in that month it would help, that’s enough for me to want to purchase one. Sounds great! Let me know if you have any more questions. Thank you.

I loved your explanation of how a mattress works. The timing belt illustration did a great job to make it clear. This is great info for knowing what to look for when buying. I’m fortunate to have a very supportive mattress I love. We’re getting one for a guest room soon, I’ll be keeping these things in mind.
    Thanks

      Hi Walter,

I appreciate that, I tried to make it as clear as I could. I’m happy you do, a mattress can go a long ways in relieving your lower back pain. Awesome 🙂

      Hi Susan,

It’s more integrated then we think. I had he same reaction the very first time I found all to know. It’s all too important to select the right cushioning for you, but from experience, you can narrow it down to the right one within minutes. Anytime! Thank you.

Great article about mattresses for back pain. A couple of years ago I went for a new one because I couldn’t wake up fresh anymore on my old one. When I came to mattress store (first time in my life) I was lost like Alice in Wonderland! There were mattresses all over the place. Soft, hard, firm, medium, semi, full, foam, springs, even coconut! All those terms left me with a headache so I left and came back again but this time prepared! Thanks to an article like this one I got learned what is the deal and when I shopped again for the new one I was able to speak with a sales lady when she asked me “how can I help you?” Now, I enjoy my medium-soft, memory foam, triple layer mattress and good night sleep.

I had to study mattresses in school and learn the difference. The technology and inventions they came up with are truly amazing!

I feel like many people start to have back problems because a big part of the population lives in a ‘box’.. they live in box house, drive to work in their box car, come to work in the box office, drive home with the box car and turn on the box for some entertainment.

There is no physical activity whatsoever so people just get stiff. This can and will cause physical problems. But apart from anyone’s lifestyle, nothing feels better than climbing into our safe nest for the night and restore from the day. That works best if you do have a comfortable mattress.

    Cheers,
    Jonathan

      Hey Jonathan,

Oh really? That’s cool! It’s always interesting to learn about the lates mattresses, or just how they come up with new technology to make them perform better, it’s truly amazing to see and learn.

I like what you said about the box lifestyle, that’s a great way to put it! And I couldn’t agree anymore with you. I’m sometimes a victim of it still, but living in a closed box comes with sharp corners, and that makes our backs worse off. We do things without thinking of how to shape our bodies, or position them so we don’t get into an accident or endure a lower back pain. Our habits must change if we are to live healthier and expect better care.

At the end of the day and night, a restful ans comfortable mattress is great to have. It’s also good for the mind, just knowing that you have a place that will help melt everything away. Thank you!

    Great article.

I have always used the same type of mattress and I do have back pain.

Maybe it is time for me to invest in this new mattress, as I like the sound sinking in and out. Thanks for sharing this and I’ll let you know how I get on.

    All the best,

    Tom

      Hi Tom,

Glad to hear from you. Thank you, I wanted to make sure it was as pleasant of an experience as it could be. Even if your mattress is not all great, there’s ways around it, as I mentioned in the article. If you can manage, then that’s ok, but if your pain gets worse to the point where you wake up in pain, can’t get up without feeling pain, and you know you have to use electric heat pads and pills, then it’s worth the investment.

The sinking in and out aspect are great metrics, you want a mattress that doesn’t get you too deeply in, but one that can allow you to move around without struggling to get out.

Yeah, I’d like to hear how you do going forward. Thank you!
